Contracts

Many breeders have and use contracts.  While they are a fantastic tool to help assure puppies go to the best homes, there are a few things you should consider before signing the dotted line.

1)Are the terms reasonable?
Many will ask for lifetime stud service from a male or puppies back from every bitches litter, this in essence is nothing more than a pyramid scheme.  All to often the puppies given back to breeder are resold on the same contract at a substantial price.

2)Does the breeder do everything they are asking you to do?
If it is Show contract, does the breeder show.  If not ask why, and why must you commit to it if they themselves do not do it.  DO NOT be a victim of the hypocritical do as I say not as I do breeder.

3) Are you new to Boxers?  If so be especially cautious, many breeders will use contracts to force their beliefs and practices on the unsuspecting newbie.  Effectively preventing you from being able to develop and implement your own unique showing/breeding program.

Be VERY cautious about signing ANY contract.  Read it thoroughly and more than once.  Having the contract reviewed  by an attorney is  recommended.  This is something that will follow you for the life of your new puppy.   If you have any misgivings or second thoughts then DO NOT sign.  NO dog is worth years of heartache, nor being tied down by someone else’s beliefs and practices.
